Roadmap

What is done, what is being built, and what comes after it. done in progress next later

0.7.7

  1. BaseMan 0.7.7 done

The base system and its USB install disk: Linux 7.2.9 server kernel, gcc 16.2.0, glibc 2.44, gtsvc, gtpakman 0.2.0.

  2. GameTimeEdition 0.7.7 install media done

The -gec kernel and 190 signed packages installed offline from the stick; installed and booted on a real machine.

  3. The public repository: repo.gametimelinux.org in progress

Name, certificate and web host are up. Next: a signed copy of the repository published there, refreshed at least every two days (a repository's CRL is good for two days, its document for fourteen), and gtpakman checked over HTTPS against it. The building and signing side never leaves NanoCry.

  4. The desktop as packages in progress

gtDesktop (our own Wayland compositor in Weston's place), its panel and notification center, the gtlogind login screen and the herd apps, packaged as signed GTPAKs so an image or a running system can install them by name.

After 0.7.7

  1. BaseMan built with gtpakman later

Today BaseMan is a rootfs plus barepackages laid over it. Next it is assembled from signed GTPAKs only: the image maker installs the base set by name from the repository with gtpakman --root, the way the GameEdition set is already made, so every file on a fresh system belongs to a signed, verifiable package and upgrades come from the same place.

  2. The HighLander shape of GameTimeEdition in progress

A GameTimeEdition box runs and builds 64-bit, 32-bit and x32 programs side by side. That is not a new distro build: 0.7.7 gets the multilib layer as gtpakman packages, kept in its layers — the system, /opt/nctdisp for 3D, /opt/steam for Steam — with no global loader path between them.

  3. Merlin, the graphical installer later

The installer on its own screen (DRM/KMS first, framebuffer fallback, keyboard and mouse straight from evdev), driving the same engine as the text wizard — which stays as the fallback.

  4. Disk Imager for everyone later

The Disk Imager as a download beside the images, writing .img.xz directly.

  5. gametimelinux.org accounts later

A sign-in for gametimelinux.org, served by its own site with a server side (Next.js or PHP, a database and a cache). This site stays static files.

  6. systemd as a choice later

The init is a toggle: gtsvc today, sysv beside it, systemd offered later.
